Portuguese first names
In Portugal, parents typically choose a first name for their child based on personal preference and family tradition. They may also consider the name's meaning and whether it is a commonly used or traditional name in Portuguese culture. Many parents will also seek input from grandparents or other family members when choosing a name. Ultimately, the decision is made by the parents and is a reflection of their personal taste and values.

Popular Portuguese surnames
In Portugal, the surname typically follows the first name and is inherited from the father. It is common for women to retain their maiden name after marriage, but they may also choose to take their husband's surname. Children typically take their father's surname, but in some cases, they may take their mother's surname. In some instances, a double surname may also be used, where both the father and mother's surnames are combined.
