Popular Iraqi surnames

In Iraq, surnames are typically passed down through the father's line. Children take on the father's surname and it is not common for women to change their surname after marriage. In some cases, a married woman may choose to use her husband's surname as a second or middle name, but it is not a traditional practice. There is also a significant population of people with tribal or clan names as their surname, indicating their membership within a specific community or group.
