Popular Brazilian surnames
In Brazil, surnames, also known as "surnames," are inherited from both the mother and father. Children typically take on their mother's maiden surname as their second surname and their father's surname as their first surname. For example, if a child's mother's maiden name is Silva and their father's surname is Santos, the child's full surname would be Santos Silva. Some people may choose to use only one of their surnames in certain situations.
